ABOUT OUR URBAN ORCHARD
Urban Orchard Kuala Lumpur (UOKL) is a community project initiated by Yen Maseri Hj Idris also known as 'Uncle Yen', a father who lost his son in 2016. He started planting fruit trees along the riverbank of Sungai Penchala, near the Bukit Kiara Muslim Cemetery, as a way of coping with his grief and honouring his son’s memory. His vision is to create a sanctuary for people who are struggling with mental health issues, and to share the fruits of his labor with the public. UOKL welcomes volunteers and visitors to join him in tending the orchard, learning about nature, and enjoying the fresh produce. He hopes that UOKL will inspire more urban dwellers to reconnect with the earth and find healing and happiness in the process.
